About the Event
About Ven. Dr. Juewei.
Venerable Dr Juewei started her research career with strong interest in the historical study of Buddhism in China. She has authored several publications related to Buddha’s birthday, including a monograph on Parading the Buddha: localizing Buddha’s birthday celebrations that is derived from her doctoral research on Buddha’s birthday parades in medieval China (2012). She has since contributed to the scholarship of Buddha’s birthday celebrations in Taiwan and Australia as well as Chan Buddhism and the Chinese Buddhist concept of merit. These studies formed the foundation for her ongoing research in Humanistic Buddhism in which most of her recent publications are focused. Venerable Dr Juewei is Head of Program for Applied Buddhist Studies and Humanistic Buddhism, as well as Director of the Humanistic Buddhism Centre at the Nan Tien Institute in Australia. She proudly holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of the West.
