On the morning of Monday, Sep. 20, the ISHB scholarly working group Modern and Contemporary Buddhist Encounters in the Southern Sinosphere had its first virtual meeting. The group discussed the plans for the year to come including its monthly lecture series, which will begin on October 19, 6:30pm with a talk from Professor Chia from NUS on his recent book, Monks in Motion: Buddhism and Modernity across the South China Sea.
The meeting, which was a great success, was attended by Ester Bianchi from University of Perugia, Li Yu-zhen from National Chengchi University, Wei-yi Cheng from Fo Guang University, Rongdao Lai from McGill University, Jack Chia from National University of Singapore, Elsa Ngar-Sze Lau from Education University of Hong Kong, Jens Reinke from University of the West, and Melody Tzu Lung Chiu from National Taiwan University.
